Corrections Overview

• The Corrections budget for FY 00 has increased nearly 11% from FY 99.

• The offender population is on an upward trend.

• The current number of inmates in state and local facilities is about 32,400.

• The incarcerated population is expected to be over 42,000 by 2003.

• In addition, about 53,000 offenders are currently supervised under probation & parole.
