State Senator Jonathan "J.P."
Perry was born and raised right in the heart of "Cajun Country."
The Kaplan, LA native attributes his rich culture, strong morals
and modest lifestyle to the area in which he grew up.
Sen. Perry graduated from Northeast Louisiana University, now
the University of Louisiana at Monroe, with a bachelor's degree
in Criminal Justice and a minor in Sociology. Following the
completion of his bachelor's degree, Sen. Perry recognized his
passion to help others at the age of 25 and enlisted in the
police academy. Sen. Perry rose to the rank of Sergeant. Soon
after enlisting, he married his high school sweetheart, the
former Christine LeBeouf. With determination to further his
education, he returned to the academic scene to pursue a law
degree. During his first year of law school, Sen. Perry and
Christine were blessed with twin daughters, Molli and Meredith.
During his third year of law school, Sen. Perry began his
political career at the age of 28, when he was elected city
councilman in his hometown. Two years after the completion of
his law degree, Sen. Perry and Christine welcomed to their lives
a son, Major.
Sen. Perry previously served as an
Assistant District Attorney for the 15th Judicial
District Court. He is currently the managing attorney of Perry
Law Firm, LLC.
In 2003, Sen. Perry
embarked on an additional career, professional comedy. He is the
past, "King of the International Cajun Joke Telling Contest™."
He has registered the trademark name, "The Cajun Ambassador." As
one of the most sought after Cajun entertainers in the country,
he has been featured on television and in newspapers throughout
the United States and has performed at Walt Disney World in
Orlando and in Washington, D.C.
In 2007, Sen. Perry was elected to the Louisiana House of
Representatives to serve District 47, where he represented
Cameron and Vermilion Parish. In October of 2009, Sen. Perry and
Christine welcomed home their fourth child, a little girl named
In 2011, Sen. Perry won a special election for Senate District
26, which encompasses Vermilion Parish and portions of Acadia,
Lafayette and St. Landry parishes. Sen. Perry is a Born Again
Christian and resides with his beautiful bride and their four
beautiful children in Kaplan.
