John A. Alario, Jr.:
The Louisiana Senate is honored to have the opportunity to continue to participate in the National Conference
of State Legislature's America's Legislator's Back to School Program. The members of the Louisiana Senate
are long-time, strong supporters of this highly successful civic education effort. In the 2010 - 2011 school
year alone, 32 senators visited 55 different schools, impacting approximately 5, 687 young people! We are eager
to return to the classroom and reach even higher numbers this year!
The Louisiana Senate believes that it is imperative to engage our state's young people and spark an interest
in the process of representative democracy. The Back to School Program gives us the opportunity to do this,
promoting public service and explaining the consensus and compromise that is the very fabric of the legislative
process. It also gives us the chance to visit with teachers and school administrators to discuss their thoughts
and their concerns, especially during this critical time.
The members of Senate hope to make a difference in the lives of young people in Louisiana through the Back to
School Program. We hope to educate and to be educated by the students we meet. And most importantly, we hope to
instill the passion of civic responsibility in our state's future leaders.
